I VESPRI SICILIANI

We have opted for a choice of interpretation that would bring to foreground the passions of the protagonists leaving (even if not quite, as we shall see) the message in the background, Verdian patriotic Risorgimento. This decision is supported by the Sicilian way of Vespers. It is indeed the land of Sicily that we decided to bring out in the staging, thanks to two fundamental points of reference in the field of painting and literature. The Sicilian land in its physicality took us directly to Burri: the primary element of the set reminds us of an explicit intervention in Gibellina and Cretti by the artist.
The materiality of Burri-and the explicit mention of his works-is also evident in the choice of metal sheets and the use of jute and embellished by gold in the costumes, for the Sicilians..

Si è optato per una scelta interpretativa che portasse in primo piano le passioni dei protagonisti lasciando (sia pure non del tutto, come si vedrà) sullo sfondo il messaggio risorgimentale patriottico verdiano. Decisione supportata dallasicilianitàdeiVespri.È infatti la terra di Siciliache abbiamo pensato di esaltare nella messa in scena, grazie a due fondamentali punti di riferimento in campo pittorico e letterario. La terra siciliana nella sua fisicità ci ha portato direttamente aBurri: l’elemento primario della scenografia ci richiama esplicitamente l’intervento a Gibellina e iCretti dell’artista.
La materialità burriana -e la citazione esplicita delle sue opere- è altresì evidente nella scelta delle lamiere metalliche e nell’uso della iuta nei costumi, dei siciliani, e impreziositi dall’oro.
